Wondering How Long a Bathroom Remodel will Take?

If a home construction project is in the future, you may be asking how long a bathroom remodel will take?

You can anticipate the renovation to take from six weeks to three months to design, implement, and wrap up loose ends. The construction only period for a bathroom project averages two to three weeks, so this is the amount of time your bathroom will be unusable.

Bathrooms need to be both functional and relaxing and they are hard to be without. Make sure you do your homework upfront and have a reliable contractor, talented bathroom interior designer, and quality cabinet company.

Factors Affecting how long a bathroom remodel will take?

Is the remodel cosmetic-only or a strip-to-the-studs rebuild?

A cosmetic makeover will take much less time than a complete bathroom remodel. If you plan on replacing cabinets, repainting, and changing the flooring, allow for a few weeks. If you are taking it down to the studs, plan on a few months.

Are you doing a DIY remodel, or are you hiring a contractor?

Although it will likely save you money, even experienced homeowners often find it challenging to complete a remodel in a reasonable.

Since renovating your home is their full-time job, contractors will finish your remodel quicker than you probably would on your own.

Is the contractor an owner-operator, or is he/she subcontracting electricians, plumbers, and carpenters?

Working with an owner-operator remodeler who does all of the work themselves can be cost-effective. However, they are likely juggling your job with others. A job requiring 10 or 15 actual workdays may take two or three months to see completion.

Contractors that subcontract work can still experience delays for specific trades, like plumbers or carpenters, as they may have scheduling conflicts, which can delay work on your project.

Are all materials readily available, or are they special-order goods that may cause you to wait for delivery?

One of the most significant delays in remodeling is the lack of material, whether it is a custom or imported tile or cabinets that damaged on the truck. We always recommend waiting until all the product is received before starting any demo.

Note:  Shower glass exclosures that are custom/frameless take time to fabricate. It is usually a two-week period from when the final measurements are taken at the job site to the installation day. This can increase during busy times.

A Flawless Timeline

The renovation schedule below was provided to us by our favorite kitchen and bathroom cabinet company, Caruso Kitchens.

It assumes that a professional general contractor working with competent subcontractors shows up on time, that no one becomes sick, materials are available, and that the homeowner, does not issue any change orders that slow down the progress. Also, all “dead days” have been removed.
