In 2023 we will see added technology, bold pops of color, organic, natural elements from nature, and more multifunctional spaces. When designing a kitchen or bath, the focus will be on convenience, relaxation, and personal style.

Maximizing light

A colossal home trend is to maximize sources of natural light by adding huge windows, adding accent lighting, lighter hues, and reflective matte materials.

Subdued Countertops, Simple Cabinet Doors, and Return to Wood Vanities

Subdued Countertops

Countertops will be clean-looking in soft, muted shades and honed finishes, void of the busy patterns of the past. While honed surfaces will bring a specific luster to the overall decor, they can also allow for a particular type of versatility that may not be found with other materials. Furthermore, honed surfaces can provide a surprising depth to a room because of their ability to catch the light. Ultimately, honed countertops offer a timeless look that adds a touch of classic style to any home.

Simple Cabinet Doors

Shaker doors have been the top cabinet trend for years. However, according to a Houzz study, Flat-panel doors (slimmer, sleeker take on the Shaker style) are trending up, with one in five renovators (20 percent) selecting them, which is up three percentage points from last year.

Return to Wood Vanities

We have seen an increasing appeal of wood cabinets with homeowners due to the popularity of the modern organic style and warm colors. Both Houzz and the NKBA see natural wood cabinets coming in a close second to the once-dominant white vanities in 2023.

Doubling Up

With more families cooking at home and multiple members working in the kitchen, homeowners are duplicating the gadgets they use the most. From single bowl sinks, dishwashers, and ovens to double islands–one for cooking and meal prep and one for work, dining, and family activities.

Spa-worthy Bathrooms

In 2023 we are shifty our view of bathrooms from task-focused spaces to spa-worthy areas focused on health, wellness, and relaxation

Natural and dimmable lighting, clean lines, easy-maintenance materials, natural colors, and greenery are similar spa-inspired trends.

Walk-in Showers

Pinterest Predicts identified an “elevated shower routine” among its top trends for the year. Expanding shower sizes are trending, with two-person showers in high demand, according to the NKBA, and shower seats, multiple showerheads, and zero-entry showers for ageless accessibility.

Removing Oversize Tubs

For years homeowners have been removing oversized tubs and replacing them with modern standalone tubs or extra large showers to open a floor plan to create a bath that feels less crowded and more serene.

Colorful, Fun Bold Patterns

Spa-worthy spaces might be this year’s most significant bathroom trend, but color and jewelry-inspired textures are added to accent the great neutrals and darker shades.

We still see the popular geometric shapes and bold accessories on open shelves.

While white will continue to be a popular choice for kitchens in 2023, we can expect to see kitchens become more colorful. In particular, homeowners are embracing warmer tones and bold pops of color rather than monochromatic, Scandinavian-style minimalism or white and gray farmhouse-style kitchens.” – the spruce

Calling on the Pros

2023 promises to be a big year for kitchens and bathrooms nationwide. Homeowners will look for ways to increase natural light, work in more innovative storage solutions, incorporate modern technology and materials, and maintain a sense of style.

DIY home projects may have gained much popularity during the pandemic (primarily out of necessity). However, most homeowners (84 percent) still rely on professionals for their kitchen renovations.
